NOW READ THIS!

bookscollage.jpgThink reading is only for brainiacs and teachers' pets? Or maybe that popular girls or athletes would never be caught dead in a library? Think again.

Olympic figure skater Kimmie Meissner, the ultimate athlete and a total cutie, signed on to be teen chair of the American Library Association's Teen Read Week (October 15-21) this year to promote her second-favorite activity. Yup, reading!

“I love to read so much because it’s just a great way for me to kind of relax,” Kimmie says. "My all-time fave is Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls."

So give your library card a little action and hit one of the Teen Read Week events, from poetry slams to open mic nights, in your area! In addition to encouraging kids to read, many events will give teens ideas and resources for being active in the community. No wonder this year's theme is GET ACTIVE @ YOUR LIBRARY! (And, no, that doesn't mean simply scoping out your crush from behind the reference desk!)

Visit http://www.ala.org/teenread for more deets. Also check local bookstores for events and promotions (hello, coupons!) throughout the week.

GL GIRLS LOVE BABETASTIC BOOKS! Some of you have already started blogging about your fave teen reads. Apparently, plenty of chicks are all about the Clique series by Lisi Harrison. Kewl! How about you?
